Ten Massive January Transfer Window Deals That Might Just Happen

10 Truly epic deals that could come to fruition this month.

Diego Costa to Arsenal

Arsenal proved over the summer that they can occasionally dust off the cobwebs from their collective wallets when they forked out £42.5m for Mesut Ozil, a move that has arguably sparked their genuine push for a Premier League title.

Arsene Wenger needs a striker and Diego Costa is in excellent form but does apparently have a very affordable transfer release clause and could perhaps garner a big pay-rise by moving to Arsenal and could feel that Diego Simeone has taken Atleico Madrid as far as they can go.

Luke Shaw to Chelsea

Teenager is apparently a Chelsea fan, Jose Mourinho needs a long term replacement for Ashley Cole so this deal may well hold water.

Southampton may not be looking to sell such a talented player but have of course in the past opted to cash in on the likes of Gareth Bale, Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

The Saints want £20m for the 18 year old, will that be an obstacle to a Roman Abramovich bid?

Juan Mata to PSG

Livid with being subbed against Southampton there is every chance that Jose Mourinho will accept a big money offer for a player he clearly values below the likes of Eden Hazard and Oscar.

PSG have money to make just such a bid and the 25 year old Spaniard knows that first team football is key to his hope of retaining a prominent role in Vicente del Bosque’s 2014 World Cup finals squad.

However Laurent Blanc has an abundance of creative midfielders, is there a danger of swapping one bench for another?

Yohan Cabaye to PSG

French international may fancy a return to Ligue 1, though is clearly not short of fellow countrymen in the Magpies squad, and PSG would offer Cabaye Champions League football.

Alan Pardew won’t want to sell but once Mike Ashley gets the whiff of enough Euros it may be tough to prevent a big money exit, similar to Mata a move to the Parc des Princes may aid Yohan Cabaye’s standing in the French national team set-up.

Leighton Baines to Man United

Yes David Moyes has failed with bids before but the situation remains the same, the Scot needs a viable replacement for Patrice Evra and it’s clear that Alexander Buttner is not the man for the job.

Roberto Martinez saw Costa Rican Bryan Oviedo work well in place of Baines when the England man was out injured, perhaps this was the motivation needed for the Toffees to accept a third, increased, bid from the Old Trafford side.

Erik Lamela to Inter Milan

Yes he’s been a flop but would Tottenham really seek to offload the Argentine so soon?

Well the honest truth is that if the White Hart Lane side were offered a sum in the same ball park as the £30m they paid AS Roma for this services then they would probably take the money and run, but that’s just not going to happen.

A move to Inter Milan is entirely dependent on just how much they are willing to fork out.

Marco Reus to Man United

Six months ago no one would imagine Marco Reus considering a Westfalenstadion exit but a lot has happened since the summer.

Bayern Munich are running away with the Bundesliga title, that is perhaps not all that surprising, however Jurgen Klopp’s side have not just fallen off the title pace they are now down in fourth and they only scrapped through to the last 16 of the Champions League thanks to a last gasp winner in Marseille.

Reus knows that Robert Lewandowski is on his way out and saw Mario Gotze flee for the Allianz Arena, perhaps a fresh challenge, and a big pay-rise, would tempt the 24 year old into making a move to Old Trafford?

Dimitar Berbatov to Arsenal

Arsenal need striking reinforcements but perhaps don’t want to spend that much in view of the options Arsene Wenger does have when everyone is fighting fit and in their best form, i.e. Olivier Giroud, Theo Walcott, Lukas Podolski, and at a push, Nicklas Bendtner.

Also shopping in January is always problematic so a bargain buy is perhaps the way to go.

Step in Fulham veteran Dimitar Berbatov. Yes he used to play for Tottenham and yes he hardly fits Arsene Wenger’s youthful transfer policy, however he does have two feathers in his cap.

One, he is a proven Premier League goalscorer and two, he exemplifies the manner in which Wenger likes his Arsenal side to play.

Arturo Vidal to Man United

David Moyes needs midfield creativity and a genuine goal threat and Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal fits the bill.

The Chilean has of course helped his Turin side to domestic crowns in the past two seasons and is likely to be on the way to collecting a hat-trick of such triumphs but the Italian side’s inability to ‘crack’ Europe is perhaps a concern.

Man United may therefore be an option the former Bayer Leverkusen man would consider though one imagines Antonio Conte would not be looking to sell such a talented performer.

Fredy Guarin to Chelsea

Jose Mourinho has been pursuing the Colombian for some weeks and this deal does look as though it may just come off and could perhaps be the West London side’s first signing of the January transfer window.

The 27 year old midfielder could be seen as a long term replacement for Frank Lampard though is perhaps less attack minded than the England man, which may actually be just what Mourinho is looking for as clearly he has a surfeit of attack minded midfielders as he can call upon Oscar, Eden Hazard, Juan Mata, Willian and even Kevin de Bruyne if necessary.

Guarin offers perhaps a move complete option and would be an intelligent bit of business to conduct this month.
