Rumours have been rife for some tine now linking the 21-year-old with a dream move to Camp Nou next summer, especially with it being common knowledge that the Catalans themselves are also on the look-out for a new shot stopper at present to take over from their current No 1 Victor Valdes, who recently confirmed his intention to leave Barcelona at the end of this campaign in order to try out a new challenge in his career in an overseas league.

And now it appears as though the man to take over from the Spain international in Catalunya next season is Ter Stegen, whose only deal with his employers in Germany expires in June 2015, after Moenchengladbach sporting director Max Eberl revealed to the club’s official website: “Marc has informed us that he won’t accept our offer and therefore will not extend his contract with us.

“It’s a great same from our point of view and we must accept it. We suspect that he will join the club about which there has been a lot of speculation.

“I expect we will come to an agreement with this club for a transfer.”

Meanwhile, the Germany international himself added: “It was not an easy decision. I have an unbelievable amount to thank the club for and I still want to put in more effort for them.

“We want to perform well as a team in the second half of the season.”
