The Merseysiders are keen to bring in a number of new recruits this month as head coach Brendan Rodgers looks to maintain the Reds’ surprise position in the top four of the Premier League as he enters the second half of the season.
So far, Liverpool have enjoyed a hugely encouraging first half of the campaign, with Rodgers’s side now in possession of one of the four qualifying spots for next season’s Uefa Champions League.
However, it is also believed that the Northern Irishman is far from happy with the strength of his current first-team squad, especially in the attacking areas, and now Rodgers is hoping to be able to lure a number of new recruits to Anfield before the transfer window slams shut for business for this campaign at the end of the month.
And one of Rodgers’s main targets is said to be Benfica’s Netherlands international, with John having already been given permission by the Portuguese outfit to leave the Estadio Da Luz if a suitable offer comes in for the 21-year-old.
