The Premier League champions have been on the look-out for a new left-sided full back ever since veteran France international Patrice Evra announced that he would not be signing a contract extension at Old Trafford, with the left back’s current deal running out at the end of this campaign.
However, the new Red Devils manager had wanted to bring his former player from Everton to the Theatre of Dreams, only to be rebuffed in his efforts by the Toffees, who have demanded a fee of £25m for their highly rated England international.
And with United not prepared to pay that amount for a player of Baines’s age and contract situation, Moyes has now opted to instead switch his focus elsewhere to Wolfsburg’s up-and-coming Switzerland international instead.
Rodriguez, 21, has only been with the Bundesliga outfit since January 2012, and with a deal that runs until June 2016, United will not find it easy to lure the Swiss to the north west this month though.
