The mercurial Portugal international only put pen to paper on a new long-term contract with the Premier League champions at the beginning of this campaign that ties the player to the Theatre of Dreams until June 30 2018.

However, despite that boost, Nani has since failed to shine on a consistent basis for new United head coach David Moyes, so much so that the Scot is now preparing to offload the winger before the winter transfer window closes for business for the season once again at the end of the month.

And the player himself is also understood to be desperate to leave the north west in January so  as to safeguard his place in his country’s squad for this summer’s Fifa World Cup finals in Brazil, with Nani set to decide between returning to his former club in the Portuguese capital or moving to the Serie A champions instead.

Either way, though, Nani’s days as a United player now appear to be over.
