Reds had appeared all set to land the Ukraine star.
Liverpool are facing stiff competition from Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur for the signature of in-demand Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk wide man Yevhen Konoplyanka, according to reports in the Daily Express.
The Merseyside giants have been keeping close tabs on the highly rated Ukraine international for some time now, with managing director Ian Ayre having been negotiating with Dnipro’s billionaire owner Ihor Kolomoyskyi all week.
However, as yet the two parties have still to come to any sort of agreement over a price for the 24-year-old, with Dnipro demanding a whopping £20m for their star man, while the Reds have so far only been willing to offer somewhere in the region of £12m.
And that impasse has now seen Tottenham also enter the race for Konoplyanka, with the north London club hoping to be able to take advantage of their Premier League rivals’ unwillingness to meet Dnipro’s asking price in full by making their own move for the player.
However, both clubs are still facing a race against time in order to be able to complete any deal for Konoplyanka before the January transfer window closes for business on Friday night.
