The Argentinian has done a hugely impressive job at St Mary’s since surprisingly being chosen to take over from Nigel Atkins at the south coast club in the previous campaign.

However, following the recent departure of executive vice chairman Nicola Cortese from the Premier League club, it is understood that Pochettino is now considering his future with Southampton come the end of the season, with the the former Saints supremo being the man who brought him to the club in the first place.

And now it is believed that the ex-Argentina international’s good work in England has come to the attention of los Blancos, with the Spaniards themselves believed to be pondering a managerial change at the Santiago Bernabeu come the end of the campaign.

In fact, should current boss Ancelotti fail to guide Madrid to their tenth European Cup this May, then the experienced Italian will be given his marching orders, with Pochettino one of the candidates to replace him.
