The Brazil international has lost his place at the heart of the west London club’s back four to Englishman Gary Cahill this season following the return to Stamford Bridge of head coach Jose Mourinho.
And as a result, speculation has been rife in recent weeks linking Luiz with a possible move away from the Blues next season, with La Liga champions Barcelona having long been courting the 26-year-old’s signature.
In fact, the Catalans even failed with a big-money approach for the Brazilian during last summer’s transfer window, but that was when the centre back was seen as an integral part of the west Londoners’ back four.
However, with the situation having since changed in the capital, Champions League holders Bayern are also now set to re-ignite their own interest in Luiz, and with the Bavarians armed with greater financial backing than Barca, Pep Guardiola’s men are now considered to be the favourites to land the defender next season.
