Both Chelsea and Manchester City are set to receive a huge blow with the news that highly rated Paris Saint-Germain holding midfielder Blaise Matuidi is set to finally put pen to paper on a new deal with the mega-rich Ligue 1 champions, according to reports in the Daily Mirror.

The all-energy France international’s current contract at the Parc des Princes only runs until June 30 2014, meaning that the player will be available to purchase on a lucrative Bosman-style free transfer this summer.

However, the reason that Matuidi has so far been unable to agree a contract extension with the big-spending Parisians is due to an ongoing legal dispute involving well-known agents Jean-Pierre Bernes and Mino Raiola, with both representatives fighting over who has the right to be the Frenchman’s agent.

But with that dispute having recently been settled, it is understood that the 26-year-old is now free to resume discussions with the Ligue 1 giants about his new deal in the French capital, with reports coming out of France suggesting that the defensive midfielder is now on the verge of agreeing a contract extension until 2018.
