The Red Devils actually tried to lure Thiago Alcantara from Camp Nou to Old Trafford last summer when new head coach David Moyes first arrived at the club from Everton.
However, the playmaker instead opted to move to the Bundesliga and European champions Bayern Munich instead, where he has shone for Pep Guardiola’s side so far this season.
But now the Scot is hoping to be able to persuade Thiago’s younger brother Rafa to move to the Theatre of Dreams next season.
Rafa Alcantara, known as Rafinha, is currently spending a season-long loan spell with fellow Spanish outfit Celta de Vigo, but with that due to come to an end at the climax to this campaign, Moyes is set to pounce for the 21-year-old this summer.
And the manager is going to be given the financial support to go and get his main targets according to executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward, who said last week: “It’s fair to say we are focused on strengthening the squad. We aren’t afraid of moving in the market in a way we perhaps haven’t seen in recent years.
