The Red Devils are understood to have been closely monitoring the 19-year-old of late as new head coach David Moyes looks to embark on a major overhaul of the first-team squad at Old Trafford this summer.
And even though Reed has barely featured so far in this campaign for the south coast club, United are still said to be keen on the player who is just another in the long line of brilliant starlets to have emerged of late from the Saints academy, including stars such as Gareth Bale, Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Luke Shaw.
In total, Reed has featured in just the five matches in all competitions to date for boss Mauricio Pochettino, although only one of those has come in the Premier League, however, if the ginger-haired wonder kid continues to impress for the high flying top flight outfit between now and the end of the campaign, then the Englishman could be in line for a shock move to the Theatre of Dreams.
