The prolific Spain international has once again been attracting the attentions of some of the Continent’s biggest clubs this season after yet another red-hot campaign for Diego Simeone’s in-form side.

As a result, the likes of both Arsenal and Chelsea are expected to make a move for the striker this summer, however, Cerezo says they will be wasting their time.

“I do not think Diego Costa will leave us at the end of the coming year,” he said.

“Unquestionably, we do not want to sell him or use him as a bargaining chip for another player.

“We will never sell, but that won’t stop teams coming in for our players.”

Meanwhile, Atleti sporting director Andrea Berta says that while the club have tended in the past to offload their star players, that may not be the case this summer: “Atletico is a company which, for its proper functioning, must sell each year.

“However, we believe in this case we can keep our players at least one more season.”
