The Belgium international has recently established himself as one of the top defenders in the Premier League following his switch from Ajax in the summer of 2012 and has subsequently been targeted by the likes of Barcelona and Manchester city.
Vertonghen stirred speculation earlier this week that suggests that he sees his long term future lie away from White Heart Lane as the side slipped even further behind Liverpool in fourth place following a surprise 1-0 defeat to struggling Norwich City.
And reports in Italy have linked Roma with a move for him as they believe they can offer him Champions League football, which he has highlighted as a pre-requesit for next year’s campaign.
With Roma in a strong position to make into Europe’s most elite club competition they have seen their bargaining hand strengthened and could look to stump the competition in landing his signature.
