Liverpool head coach Brendan Rodgers has taken a swipe at goalkeeper Jose Manuel Reina, while also totally ruling out the possibility of the Spaniard ever returning to the Merseyside giants in the future, according to reports in the Daily Mirror.

The experienced Spain international left Anfield to sign for Serie A outfit Napoli on a season-long loan deal last summer.

However, with the 31-year-old still contracted to play for the Reds until June 2016, it was assumed that the shot stopper would return to the Premier League giants at the end of the campaign.

However, the Northern Irishman has now poured cold water on that prospect, saying:  “He’s already written his letter, hasn’t he? He wrote a goodbye letter, didn’t he?

“I was surprised at the letter – when you are a loan player I would expect that he should come back, but obviously Pepe made it very clear when he went to Napoli that he was looking to move.

“He penned a great, big letter saying he was going to work with the best manager that he’d worked with and thanked for his time for Liverpool. So, for me, it probably sounded like he’d made his decision there.”
