One of England’s newest stars is a Londoners born and bred. Townsend has spent his entire career at Tottenham but was farmed out on nine loans before making the breakthrough at Spurs. It was at another London club, QPR, that he caught the eye last season.
AMC: Frank Lampard
Super Frank joins Chelsea teammate Terry in the London XI, having been born in Romford and played for London clubs his entire career. Lampard has an outside chance of making England’s World Cup squad.
LW: Raheem Sterling
Sterling may play for Liverpool, but the teenage whizzkid is a Londoner and came through the ranks at QPR before being poached by the Merseysiders.
ST: Jermain Defoe
The former Spurs striker is now a Toronto FC player but is a proper London chap, and came through the ranks at Charlton and West Ham before joining Tottenham.
