New manager Mauricio Pochettino is aiming to transform Spurs from last season’s 6th place finish into genuine top four contenders. To do so, he’s expected to enter the transfer market this summer, and here’s how his Tottenham side could line up if he manages to secure his targets.

GK) Hugo Lloris

In Lloris, Spurs already have arguably the Premier League’s best goalkeeper. Pochettino will do everything he can to convince the French no.1 to stay, although to be fair – Lloris does deserve to be playing Champions League football. We reckon the stopper will give Pochettino a season to prove he’s got what it takes to transform the club.

DR) Kyle Walker

Walker should be fit and ready to start next season on the right of defence. He’s an England international, and provides a wonderful attacking threat down the flank, although Pochettino will be keen that he improves his defensive reliability.

DC) Rio Ferdinand

Spurs want the ageing legend to sign on a free transfer, after the likes of Younes Kaboul and Michael Dawson, and even summer signing Vlad Chiriches had shaky campaigns last term. He lacks paces, but Vertonghen alongside him should counter that, and he more than makes up for it in experience anyway.

DC) Jan Vertonghen

The Belgian has assured Spurs fans that he’s ready to stay on at White Hart Lane. At his highest level, he’s one of the best in the top flight, and Pochettino will want to play him in his best position in the centre of defence.

DL) Danny Rose

The club has been linked with Ashley Cole, but it’s likely that the left-back will join a club willing to meet his astronomical wage demands. Rose did a decent job for Spurs last term, and at just 23-years-old, has the potential to improve. Pochettino proved with the Saints that he’s not afraid to trust young English left-sided defenders!

MC) Victor Sanchez

CaughtOffside exclusively reported that Pochettino was sniffing around the Spanish battler he formerly managed at Espanyol. Sanchez was the top tackler in La Liga last term, and would come and provide  battling qualities and combativeness to White Hart Lane. Paulinho has been linked with a move to Chelsea, and Mousa Dembele could also play in this position if he increases his discipline.

MC) Sandro

The Brazilian fell out of favour under Tim Sherwood, but is a fans’ favourite at the Lane. The Tottenham faithful will expect Pochettino to get the best out of him, restoring him to his pivotal role in central midfield.

AMR) Erik Lamela

Many believe that part of the reason Pochettino was appointed was to get the best out of of Spurs’ record signing. Both are Argentine, and while Lamela is undeniably talented, injuries and homesickness plagues his debut season. When he returns to fitness, surely he’ll get the chance to prove he was worth the £30m, with the likes of Andros Townsend and Aaron Lennon available from the bench.

AMC) Christian Eriksen

Spurs’ best player last term, the extremely talented Dane will likely be given the pivotal no.10 role. He can score, create goals and take deadly, deadly set-pieces – as Pochettino has been direct witness to, when Eriksen put his Southampton side to the sword last term.

AML) Adam Lallana

Spurs could well make the 26-year-old England international their marquee summer signing. He’s technically superb, and worked brilliantly under Pochettino at St. Mary’s. This could persuade him to move to White Hart Lane instead of Anfield this closed season.

FC) Javier Hernandez

Roberto Soldado is clearly not up to scratch, while Jermain Defoe left in January to join the MLS. Mexican forward Hernandez has proven his mettle in the Premier League already, but struggles to get playing time at Old Trafford because of Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie. Tottenham could offer him just that, with Emanuel Adebayor similarly competing for a starting spot.
