Roa is best remembered as the goalkeeper that faced England during that bad tempered World Cup semi final for Argentina at France 98, however, that was to be one of his last acts for a while as he hung up his boots shortly after because he was a Seventh Day Adventist Church. As the millennium approached, he gave away all his possessions and retreated to a mountain villa where he would “prepare for the end of the world, in a place where He will provide everything we need.”
He made a reserved return shortly after he realised the world was still standing in the year 2000.
