The Luis Suarez transfer saga rumbles on, with the Daily Mirror reporting that Real Madrid are preparing a package worth £80 million and wages of £350,000 per-week to keep the Uruguayan out of the hands of arch-rivals Barcelona.

European Champions Madrid, who have also been linked heavily with Monaco forward Radamel Falcao in recent days, are desperate for a new striker to lead the line alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale, with Karim Benzema likely to be departing. The possible transfer could leave Real with a front three worth over £240 million.

While Liverpool will be reluctant to sell their prize asset, who scored twice for his country against England last week, they will be encouraged by the potential for a bidding war over the 27-year-old, which will only serve to push his price higher.

The Reds held firm last summer, refusing to sell to Arsenal even after they had met Suarez’s £40 million buyout clause. Suarez went on to sign a new contract and score 31 goals to fire Liverpool to second place in the Premier League, agonisingly short of their maiden Premier League title.

Manager Brendan Rodgers would have little trouble in reinvesting the money that would be gained from the deal, with Barcelona forward Alexis Sanchez, Southampton’s midfielder Adam Lallana and Sevilla full-back Alberto Moreno amongst those linked with big-money moves to Anfield this summer.
