Following Luis Suarez’s barbaric bite on Italy’s Giorgo Chielini in Uruguay’s World Cup win yesterday, many calls have been raised by fans of Liverpool for the club to sell their world-class, but idiotic striker.

Here’s five names the club should perhaps target to replace the Premier League Player of the Year, who notched 31 goals in the top flight last term.

5) Mario Mandzukic – Bayern Munich

The powerful Croat is available, and while he doesn’t posses anywhere like the genius of Suarez, he can hold the ball superbly, and could complement Daniel Sturridge very well in this respect. Last term, Mandzukic hit 18 Bundesliga goals in just 21 starts. Not bad at all. Plus, his reasonable price fee would allow Liverpool to invest the money into strengthening a leaky defence.

4) Falcao – AS Monaco

This deal seems highly unlikely. The Colombian reportedly flatly refused Liverpool’s advances this summer, as he has his heart set on a move back to Spain to join Real Madrid. However, he’s one of the few strikers in the world of Suarez’s pedigree who could boost Liverpool should the Uruguayan leave. He’d cost enormous money, but likely be worth it.

3) Edinson Cavani – PSG

Cavani wants to play as a centre-forward, which is easily his best position. At PSG though, Zlatan Ibrahimovic is given this role, and Liverpool could perhaps tempt Suarez’s current Uruguayan strike partner to join Anfield and spearhead the side. Cavani is much more powerful than Suarez, and proved during his time in Italy that he has the ability to score just as many goals. Again though, his penchant for genius isn’t quite at the level of Suarez. Caught Offside understands that a deal could be on the cards.

2) Alexis Sanchez

There’s a chance if Suarez did leave, it would be to Barcelona, meaning the Reds could propose or accept a potential swap deal for Chilean winger Alexis Sanchez. However, according to club legend Phil Thompson, a deal for Sanchez has already been wrapped up – which if true – would excited Reds hugely. He’s not an out and out striker, but could play as part of a dynamic front three.

1) Karim Benzema

Benzema’s proving his outstanding pedigree at the World Cup with France this summer, having already bagged three times. If Falcao joins Real Madrid, Benzema will not be happy to play second fiddle to him at the Bernabeu, and could be available this summer. Liverpool would do far worse than signing the maverick forward…
