Reds fans furious at link with former Chelsea striker…

Liverpool have been linked with a move for free transfer striker Samuel Eto’o, 33, to plug the gap left by superstar forward Luis Suarez.
For a club aiming to go one better this season and win the Premier League title, this seems fairly uninspiring, and here’s four other players linked to Liverpool this summer, as well as the veteran Cameroonian, which has seen fans’ blood boil!
5) Samuel Eto’o
The striker was once regarded, and rightly so, as one of the best in world football. After one year at Chelsea though, it’s clear that the ageing African is no longer anywhere near that level. His work-rate is questionable, his pace has largely gone, and his heart is arguably not in it. Eto’o was released by Chelsea, and although he wouldn’t cost anything in terms of a transfer fee, his wages would be extortionate. Could Liverpool not do better?
5) Ryan Bertrand
Liverpool were strongly linked to the Chelsea left-back who was shipped out on loan to Aston Villa last term, and did very little of note to impress. Fans regularly took to Twitter to bemoan the rumour, but the Englishman eventually joined Southampton on loan instead.
4) Ben Davies
Liverpool have predominantly been targeting Alberto Moreno, the Spanish international, this summer, but there was a time when it looked like they’d snap up Ben Davies instead. The Welshman is not a bad player at all, but when direct rivals Chelsea were splashing £20m on world-class Brazilian Filipe Luis, Liverpool fans were asking themselves how they could possibly compete when they were shopping for a lower calibre of star. Spurs eventually signed the Swansea man.
3) Jay Rodriguez
The reason this rumour wound Liverpool fans up is because the club had already spent nearly £50m to sign three Southampton players in Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren and Rickie Lambert. The Saints played an attractive brand of football last term, but finished eighth, it’s important to note. How could Liverpool improve by signing a bucket load of players from the same mid-table club…?
2) Wilfried Bony
Bony is not a bad player, and actually bagged 25 goals for Swansea last season. However, he’s renowned for his physical prowess, and has none of the genius of the departed Luis Suarez. He stays centrally, and for the mooted £20m price tag, Reds fans would want a more technically gifted and pacy attacker.
