Five Players Tottenham Can Sign To Get Them Back Into The Champions League

Five stars Spurs should spring for to get them back into the Champions League.

Tottenham suffered a disastrous campaign last term by their own recent high standards, and as a result there will be no European football at White Heart Lane this year whatsoever. New boss Mauricio Pochettino has already made some moves to improve the squad, but there is still much work to be done, and with only two weeks left to go until the window shuts the club can still bring in any of the players listed below to give themselves a better shot at making it back to Europe’s premier club competition.

Marcelo – Real Madrid

Spurs are in dire need of a world class left-back having had several problems with the personnel that has occupied the position over recent seasons. Madrid are open to parting with the Brazilian having witnessed the revival of Fabio Coentrao. He would certainly give the manager no headaches should he join, and would add a touch of class that the club still lack.

Toby Alderweireld – Atletico Madrid

Another player that could make the left-back slot all his own, and when needed even fill in at left-back, is Belgian international Toby Alderweireld. Since joining Atletico last summer he has struggled to establish himself within the side and missed the majority of the club’s shock title win by sitting on the batch. However, after a strong World Cup he is back in demand and Atleti boss Diego Simeone has reportedly agreed to let him out on loan after please from the player’s father.

Morgan Schneiderlin – Southampton

Pochettino could pour yet more misery on his former club by making a move for this exceptional ball winning midfielder. The France international has already claimed that he has reached a gentleman’s agreement with the club, but with Ronald Koeman desperate to hang on to him a move may be harder to come by.

Freddy Guarin – Inter Milan

The Colombian at one point had been tipped to join Manchester United before Inter relented. However, in their need to sign a goalscorer the club have sought to offer Spurs the chance to sign him in a part exchange deal for Roberto Soldado. The Colombian international is highly sought after across Europe, and Spurs would do well to bring him on board. He would add a tricky turn of pace in the middle and offer a powerful presence to keep the engine room ticking over.

Javier Hernandez – Manchester united

Spurs are in desperate need of a proven goalscorer and in Hernandez they have a target that would be able to boost their frontline and make best use of the creative players behind him. The Mexican has been told that he is free to leave the club this summer, and Spurs are likely to press ahead with a move to bring him to White Heart Lane. However, any move will probably rely on Tottenham getting Soldado off their books, which may be easier said than done.
