With reports suggesting that Manchester United have agreed a fee of £63.9 million for the signing of Argentina winger Angel di Maria from Real Madrid, the Red Devils are set to continue a huge year in the transfer market that has seen them capture four big names before di Maria’s imminent arrival.

Should the deal be confirmed, it would bring their total 2014 outlay to on these five stars:

Juan Mata

United kicked off their year of spending with the huge signing of playmaker Juan Mata from Chelsea in January, with the Spanish international making the move north for a fee of £37.1m.

Ander Herrera

The first signing made by Dutchman Louis van Gaal upon taking the reigns at Old Trafford this summer was another Spanish midfielder, box-to-box man Ander Herrera from La Liga side Athletic Bilbao for a cool £29m.

Luke Shaw

Soon after the capture of Herrera was confirmed, van Gaal continued his reshaping of the United squad with the signing highly-rated young left back Luke Shaw for £27m from Southampton – a new world record fee for a teenager.

Marcos Rojo

After a protracted chase involving significant third party negotiation, United were finally able to conclude the £16m signing of defender Marcos Rojo from Sporting Lisbon recently, after he impressed for Argentina at the World Cup playing at left back.

Angel di Maria

United appear to have been searching for a real marquee signing, to make a statement of intent in the transfer market, for much of the summer – and now seem to be set to get their man after reportedly agreeing a £63.9m fee for winger Angel di Maria from European champions Real Madrid.
