After struggling to make an impact at Madrid, the Dutch midfield maestro made the surprise move to White Hart Lane. He spent a little over two seasons in North London before joining Hamburg.

The first marquee signings at Manchester City, his £32.5m arrival at the club signaled their intentions to become one of the world’s biggest clubs, and while the Brazilian struggled, his signing was a gateway to things to come.

The German World Cup winner was a defining signing for Arsenal, as Arsene Wenger finally signalled his willingness to spend big. The former Real Madrid man has not set the world alight yet during his time in North London, but has plenty more to offer.

The Spanish midfielder has managed to make the move from Barcelona twice, having signed for Arsenal as a youngster, before moving to Chelsea this summer – having initially been resigned by the Catalans. One of the best midfielders of his generation.

Arsenal spent big for the second summer in a row, as Chilean forward Alexis Sanchez joined the club from Barcelona. An iconic figure in his national country, but a slow starter in North London – he has struggled to adapt to life in the Premier League thus far.

Manchester United smashed the British transfer record to sign the Real Madrid winger. United have started slowly under the stewardship of manager Louis van Gaal, and the Old Trafford faithful will be hoping the Argentine can help turn that around.
