Arsenal are working on three more signings worth around £49.5m in total to come in before the transfer window closes on September the 1st.

The Gunners have already been busy in the transfer market this summer, signing big names such as Alexis Sanchez and Mathieu Debuchy alongside highly promising youngster Calum Chambers and backup goalkeeper David Ospina.

However, with recent injuries to key midfielder Mikel Arteta and the club’s only recognised striker Olivier Giroud, Arsene Wenger has been forced into the market late on to make key additions in the necessary areas.

It is understood that talks are already well under way for Arsenal to bring in their new targets, and that one squad player such as Lukas Podolski or Joel Campbell could be sold in the next couple of days to help fund the moves.

The three players Arsenal are hoping to bring in are as follows:

3) Sokratis Papastathopoulos (Borussia Dortmund)

After some negotiations in the last few days, Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund have reportedly agreed a fee of £15m for Greek international centre-back Sokratis Papastathopoulos, who will now hold personal talks with the Gunners and undergo a medical at the Emirates Stadium over the weekend. With Thomas Vermaelen leaving for Barcelona earlier this summer, Arsene Wenger had been keen to bring in one more player as cover for Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny, and Sokratis looks the ideal signing for that role after his fine displays for Dortmund.

2) Luiz Gustavo (Wolfsburg)

A further £26m could be spent on the release clause of Wolfsburg midfielder Luiz Gustavo. The powerful Brazilian enforcer looks a superb addition to this Gunners squad to fill in for Mikel Arteta and provide a more long-term option in that deep-lying defensive midfield role. Gustavo was first linked with Arsenal last summer whilst still at Bayern Munich, and Wenger is now ready to move for him again in a move that the club hope will be finalised before the transfer deadline. Real Madrid are also interested in the 27-year-old, but are currently behind Arsenal in the reckoning.

1) Loic Remy (Queens Park Rangers)

Finally, Arsenal could finally conclude a deal for long-time target Loic Remy as they eye a new striker signing to fill the injured Giroud’s boots this season. Despite talks failing to progress earlier in the summer due to the Queens Park Rangers man’s wage demands, it is now thought that Arsenal are ready to meet his expectations and give him the contract they need to sign some badly-needed cover in attack. Remy still has to undergo a medical at the club, however, and a move is no forgone conclusion after he failed an examination by Liverpool earlier this summer, which saw a proposed move to Anfield fall through at the last minute.
