With Manchester United set to confirm the signing of Daley Blind from Ajax, here’s ten facts the club’s fans should know about their latest summer signing…

1) He’s the son of Danny Blind – former Ajax and Netherlands defender who has also managed the Amsterdam club and is currently assistant to Dutch national coach Guus Hiddink

2) A product of Ajax’s youth academy, he made his debut for the club all the way back in December 2008, when he was just 18 years old.

3) He’s a highly versatile player – Blind has played left-back, left wing-back, centre-back and defensive midfield for club and country, and could be a useful signing for the Red Devils in any one of those positions.

4) He’s won four league titles in a row – although the Premier League is far more competitive than the Eredivisie, United can at least say they are signing an experienced winner with this transfer.

5) He was voted Dutch Footballer of the Year for 2014 and was also Ajax’s player of the year for the 2012/13 season.

6) It was Blind’s superb long ball that set up now-United team-mate Robin van Persie for his wonderful diving header against Spain at the World Cup this summer.

7) Blind also scored his first international goal at the tournament, finding the back of the net in his country’s 3-0 win in the third-place playoff against host nation Brazil.

8) He’s won at Old Trafford before – Blind came off the bench as Ajax claimed a surprise 2-1 victory against Sir Alex Ferguson’s side in a Europa League match in 2012, though United won 3-2 on aggregate.

9) He’s dating model and dancer Candy-Rae Fleur, a WAG we’ll no doubt be hearing more about in the near future!

10) His signing will mean United have spent roughly £56.8m on three left-backs this summer, with Luke Shaw and Marcos Rojo also joining the club.
