Three Arsenal Stars Who Have Yet to Deliver On Their Obvious Potential

A trio of Emirates Stadium stars who’s Gunners careers are stuttering.

Jack Wilshere

The England man is now into his seventh season in the Arsenal first team set-up but has arguably not as good a player as he was a couple of years back.

Wilshere is still just 22 and there is no suggestion that the midfielder can’t get his career back on track but when you consider his progress when compared to team-mate Aaron Ramsey you can’t help but feel that the youngster has lost his way a tad.

Yes he’s suffered with injuries but even when fully fit Wilshere hasn’t proved effective and arguably his form today doesn’t warrant a spot in Arsene Wenger’s first XI.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Another stunning young talent but another player who has failed to reach the heights one would have expected by this point in his Arsenal career.

The 21 year old former Southampton man moved to Arsenal three years ago but has just 24 Premier League starts to his name since moving to the Emirates Stadium and should really have progressed far more than he has, again this is in part down to injury and fitness concerns but also an inability to really make an impact when starting.

If Oxlade-Chamberlain is not careful he may find himself considered more of an impact player coming from the bench rather than a player who can really puts his stamp on a game from the outset.

Theo Walcott

The Arsenal attacker invariably starts seasons with a bang and then ends them with a whimper, usually as a result of a lengthy injury lay-off.

In his nine seasons in the Arsenal set-up Walcott has only twice started more than half of the club’s Premier League fixtures, last term he managed just nine top tier league starts and the England man has been out of action since January.

This isn’t to say that it’s just injury concerns that have held back Walcott’s development there is also a sense that far too often the former Southampton man can vanish from games and there also issues relating to his finishing, an area of his game that has improved but not enough to convince Wenger to play the 25 year old in his preferred striking role.
