The Gunners are coming off the back of underwhelming draws against both Everton and Leicester City, while the Premier League champions are looking to recover from a shock 1-0 defeat at the hands of Stoke City.

The rivalry between the two clubs has grown massively in recent years, mainly due to City’s unwavering habit of signing, or attempting to sign, Arsenal’s best players.

Ahead of the game, CaughtOffside picks their Arsenal / City dream team, creating a superb combined XI that would be more than capable of winning the Premier League. Who knows maybe this will be City’s team in a few years… just kidding Arsenal fans!

GK) Joe Hart (Manchester City)

The City stopper has had his problems in recent months, but looks to be back to something close to his best so far during this campaign, and narrowly edges out Wojciech Szcz?sny.

RB) Pablo Zabaleta (Manchester City)

The Argentine full-back is one of the best players for his position in the world. He beats both current and former Arsenal stars Mathieu Debuchy and Bacary Sagna.

LB) Aleksandar Kolarov (Manchester City)

Another difficult choice considering that neither team has an automatic choice at left-back. Kolarov is perhaps more dangerous going forward than Gaël Clichy, giving him the nod over the former Arsenal man. The Gunners Kieran Gibbs is arguably more talented, but his injury troubles mean Nacho Monreal has been playing there for the Londoners recently. We’ll give it to the Serbian.

CB) Vincent Kompany (Manchester City)

A simple choice. The Manchester City captain is among the most formidable centre backs in world football, and was never going to miss out on any best XI.

CB) Laurent Koscielny (Arsenal)

Kompany’s lack of a world class centre back partner has been City’s undoing more than once in recent years. They will be hoping to solve that issue with the signing of Eliaquim Mangala, but as yet he remains unproven at Premier League level. Koscielny therefore becomes the first Arsenal name on the team-sheet.

CM) Aaron Ramsey (Arsenal)

The young Welshman was Arsenal’s player of the year last year, despite only playing half the season. He will continue to grown and improve, and has to be part of this team.

CM) Yaya Toure (Manchester City)

The midfield powerhouse is one of the most dominant players in world football, with his incredible attributes being one of the main reasons behind City’s success in recent years.

RW) Alexis Sanchez (Arsenal)

The Chilean is a world class player who is slowly growing more and more used to English football. After a slow start, he his beginning to show promising signs of being a major hit in North London.

AM) Mesut Ozil (Arsenal)

The World Cup winning German is still to show his best form in an Arsenal shirt. If he can rediscover the performances that made Arsenal pay out a record transfer fee to bring him to their club, then he will warrant a place in this team too.

LW) David Silva (Manchester City)

The Spanish midfield maestro has been, like Toure, key to City’s success in recent years, contributing both goals and assists on a regular basis. Another must for this all-star attacking midfield.

ST) Sergio Aguero (Manchester City)

Leading the line is City’s prolific Argentine. He is not quite the target man that Olivier Giroud or Edin Dzeko might be, but goals talk, and Aguero scores more than all of his competition.
