Here are the four official candidates to claim the gong.

Mark Hughes, Stoke City

A home defeat to Aston Villa and a draw with 10-man Hull City was hardly an inspiring start for the Potteries, but it is what Hughes’ men achieved in their last outing that sees the Welshman on this list.

Against the odds Stoke travelled to the Etihad Stadium to be hosted by reigning champions Manchester City and came away with all three points.

Paul Lambert, Aston Villa

With a tough run of fixtures ahead for Villa their boss will be happy that they have put seven points on the board already from their first three league games.

This leaves Lambert’s side in third currently after securing victories over Stoke and Hull, drawing with Newcastle United and conceding just one goal to date.

Garry Monk, Swansea City

What a start it has been for the Swans and Monk now that he has been given the job of permanent successor to Michael Laudrup in the dugout.

Against the odds the South Wales team have a 100% record which has seen them score six times, concede once and beat Manchester United at Old Trafford on the opening day of the campaign.

Jose Mourinho, Chelsea

It looks as if it could be a two-horse race for this award between the two men who have won all their games to date, with Mourinho joining Monk with a perfect record.

His Blues team look strong as well with 11 goals already scored and fittingly the West Londoners host Swansea City at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
