Buyout clause: £120m
Under contract until 2016, the Spanish international is proving to be a key component of the side and in truth, it’s difficult to see him leaving. He provides the side with a defensive balance to a devastatingly attacking side, it’s no shock to see why they value him to highly.

Despite only joining the club last year, he unsurprisingly has a huge buyout clause installed to keep him at the club. A valuable commodity, the only shock here is that the number is not considerably higher than £120m. That number could go up, though, providing he gels with Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez this season.

The former Man United defender has been with the club since 2008, and after a shaky start to his career has blossomed into one of the game’s strongest competitors in his position. He has won everything there is to win in football now, and will be expected to step up and fill in for Carles Puyol now that he has retired.

The midfield maestro has spent his entire career at the Nou Camp and has been such an instrumental part of their success that he has warranted his own £160m buyout fee. He has got better with age as he has become one of the world’s most sophisticated midfielders. Worth every penny.
1. Lionel Messi
Buyout clause: £200m
Understandably has the biggest clause at the club as his contributions over his short career can already be described as stratospheric. Showing no signs of slowing down either, it is unlikely that he will ever leave the club having become so synonymous with Catalonia.
