Five Of The Biggest Knee Jerk Reactions Folowing Arsenal Draw With Man City, Mesut Özil Heavily Criticised

Five of the biggest knee-jerk reactions to Arsenal’s 2-2 draw with Manchester City.

Football fans can be some of the most fickle people on earth, and as is evidenced by some of the reactions from their draw with Manchester City on Saturday, Arsenal fans are amongst the biggest culprits.

Here are a few of the biggest knee-jerk reactions from the game.

5) Mesut Özil should be sold

Mesut Özil may not have been at his dazzling best so far this season, but to state this early on that he should be sold is truly ridiculous. He was one of the best No. 10s in the world at Real Madrid, so what’s to say he can’t still be at Arsenal? The German is not being helped by the fact that Arsene Wenger insists on playing him out of position, but it’s only a matter of time before the World Cup winner’s form picks up. For Arsenal fans to be calling for the sale of their record signing so soon after bringing him in, especially after clamouring for a player of his quality for so long, is simply ludicrous.

4) Danny Welbeck is not good enough

Danny Welbeck’s transfer has been one that has largely split opinion, and many believed long before the game against City that if he wasn’t good enough for Manchester United then he wasn’t good enough for Arsenal. But to state that the 23-year-old isn’t good enough essentially based on one miss is extremely unfair. Welbeck was very unlucky to hit the post after deftly chipping Joe Hart, and he performed admirably throughout the game. Whether he will succeed at Arsenal remains to be seen, but to judge him on one game is not right.

3) Aaron Ramsey should be dropped

Have the Gunners not learned their lesson with Ramsey? After his horrific injury Aaron Ramsey suffered Tom Cleverley-esque abuse and criticism, with a large proportion of Arsenal fans calling for the Welshman to be unloaded as soon as possible. He came through the darkness however, and over the last 18 months has become not only one of the best players at Arsenal, but one of the best box to box midfielders in the world. Even when he hasn’t been playing that well this season he has still popped up with vital goals and assists, so people need to have a little patience with the 23-year-old. No player can be in form 365 days a year.

2) Wojciech Szczesny should be dropped

The Pole in the goal is another player who has been fantastic for Arsenal over the last season or two, but yet after conceding two goals which he couldn’t really do much about, fans are calling for David Ospina? Yes, Szczesny was unfortunate in the fact that had he not got a hand to Martin Demichelis’ header then Mathieu Flamini probably would have headed it off the goal line, but he really can’t be blamed for that. If the Polish shot stopper were to have left it and Flamini failed to clear, then he surely would have been castigated for failing to even attempt a save. He made a number of excellent saves that game, and probably saved a point for the Gunners.

1) Wenger is past it and needs to go

This is by far the most popular knee-jerk reaction from Arsenal fans, although to be fair calling for the sacking of a manager is certainly not exclusive to the North London club. Arsene Wenger has done wonders for the club, and to think that any other manager could have done better on the shoe string budget he has been working with is a bit of a fairy tale. The French manager is certainly not infallible, and his stubbornness when it comes to substitutions or playing players out of position is understandably frustrating. But let’s not forget that Arsenal are currently unbeaten at home in 20 league games, winners of the FA Cup and the Community shield in recent months, and are still able to attract some of the world’s biggest stars; all in large part thanks to Arsene Wenger.
