The 22 year old scored an excellent goal to put his side 2-1 up before City equalised late on.

During the Three Lions last game against Switzerland, Wilshere was played in a deeper holding position while the likes of Raheem Sterling were given a more attacking role.

The midfielder believes he could thrive playing further forward for England and hopes Roy Hodgson is able to give him a chance in that position.

”Naturally, I want to go forward more,” the 22-year-old told the Daily Mirror.

”You saw with England that sometimes I lost a bit of concentration when I do go forward. But in our formation it’s nice to play forward and in the England one it’s different. I’m happy to play either.

”In the formation we play, I should be scoring more goals. We play with one holding and two going forward and I’m one who gets forward. Hopefully that will be one of many.”

The midfielder was key to helping Arsenal battle back from a goal down against City and believes his sides attitude towards winning has changed since the end of last season.

”Towards the end of last season when it looked like we wouldn’t get into the top four, we did. We said, ‘Listen, this isn’t good enough,” he said.

”Since the last seven or eight games of last season until now, we’ve had a fantastic attitude. Everyone in training is buying into the defensive side of the game and we want to improve that, winning the ball back high up. Once we do that, our quality is going to change.”
