Five Possible Replacements for Hugely Disappointing Arsenal Star Mesut Ozil, Inculding Man United Star

Five players who could do a better job for Arsenal than Ozil. With Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil once again failing to impress in this weekend’s 2-2 draw with Manchester City, there is growing speculation that his time at the club could come to an end, with Bayern Munich supposedly lining up a £32m bid for him in January.

It’s clear that the German international has not been at his best since his big-money move from Real Madrid last summer, and Arsenal must now be considering scouring the transfer market for replacements, with a number of players out there who could surely do a better job than the 25-year-old at the moment.

Below are five realistic targets for the Gunners as they consider a replacement for Ozil for when the transfer window re-opens in January.

5) Juan Mata (Manchester United)

A similar player to Ozil, but one in better form, there have been whispers that Juan Mata could leave Manchester United this January. The likes of Juventus and AS Roma are said to be monitoring his situation at Old Trafford, with his first-team place possibly under threat following the arrival of Angel Di Maria. Still, Mata impressed and scored in this weekend’s 4-0 win over Queens Park Rangers, and Louis van Gaal will be wary of selling the Spaniard to a Premier League rival.

4) Mario Gotze (Bayern Munich)

Another German playmaker who could be a better prospect for Arsenal, Mario Gotzze has recently been linked with a move away from Bayern Munich. The 22-year-old scored the winning goal for Germany against Argentina in this summer’s World Cup final, showing that he is not one to shy away from the big occasion like Ozil. Chelsea and Manchester United are also interested in the former Borussia Dortmund star, who has been linked with Arsenal before and is very much Arsene Wenger’s type of player. With Bayern chasing Ozil, perhaps a swap deal could be worth exploring for the Gunners?

3) Miralem Pjanic (AS Roma)

One of the best playmakers in Serie A for some time now, AS Roma star Miralem Pjanic could surely be an upgrade on Ozil on current form. The Bosnian international has also been linked with Barcelona and Manchester United in recent times, but could worth paying the big money for as the Gunners look in need of improvements in the attacking midfield area.

2) Isco (Real Madrid)

A player who has lost his way somewhat at Real Madrid, Isco could be on his way out of the Bernabeu in the near future and may be worth a gamble by Arsenal. The Spanish playmaker was regarded as one of the best young players in the world during his time at previous club Malaga, when he first attracted interest from the Gunners as well as other top clubs, and he could take the opportunity to revive his career at the Emirates Stadium.

1) Marco Reus (Borussia Dortmund)

Long linked as a top transfer target for Arsenal and a host of other top clubs, who better to come in and improve Arsene Wenger’s attacking options than Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus. The German international could be available for just £20m next summer as a release clause into effect, though some rumours suggest he already has a deal in place to sign for Real Madrid.
