The £5m Bargain Buy Liverpool Should Sign In January

Anfield outfit would do well to welcome in this Premier League stalwart when the transfer window reopens.

Liverpool have invested a fair sum in new additions over the summer, making good use of the £75m made from the sale of Luis Suarez to Barcelona, but arguably Brendan Rodgers could still do with additions who have experience of both Champions League action and life at the top end of the Premier League.

Many of those brought in by Rodgers are with a view to the long term with the likes of Divock Origi, Lazar Markovic and Emre Can being players to build future side’s around whilst Southampton trio Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert and Dejan Lovren have little in the way of European experience.

One player who can be brought in during the January transfer window is a certain James Milner, who can apparently be picked up for as little as £5m as his Etihad Stadium contact is due to expire and Liverpool are known to be interested in the former Leeds United, Newcastle United and Aston Villa man.

Milner may well be into his 13th season of Premier League action but is still only 28 years of age and is a player who has avoided much in the way of long injury lay-offs so one imagines he has plenty left in the tank.

The England international offers Rodgers the chance to add strength in depth in a number of roles either in wide midfield roles, even at full-back or in the centre of the park.

Whilst it’s true Milner isn’t a ‘on the edge of your seat’ style signing he is a hugely consistent performer who 50 England caps to his name and two Premier League winners medal.

Man City splashed out £28m on Milner back in August 2010 but a lack of first team opportunities may well see the versatile Yorkshire born player looking for a fresh challenge and he may deem resurgent Liverpool as a tempting option to consider.
