Brendan Rodgers will no doubt be desperate to hold onto the highly promising 19-year-old, but the big money brought in from his possible sale could help the club land some exciting players in the transfer market, with these five good contenders to come in and fill his boots at Anfield:

5) Marco Reus (Borussia Dortmund)

A world class attacking midfield player, Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus may be available for just £20m next summer as a release clause in his contract comes into effect. There may be no better player suited to this role on the market at the moment, and Liverpool would do brilliant to snap him up, though they will likely face competition from the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United.

4) Isco (Real Madrid)

Not currently a first-team regular for Real Madrid, Isco could be a good option for Liverpool to consider in the attacking midfield positions. The Spanish youngster is a highly regarded talent that could shine in the Premier League if given more of a chance to play regularly, and perhaps there is potential for a swap deal here.

3) Nicolas Gaitan (Benfica)

A top class player still playing in the Portuguese top flight, Nicolas Gaitan could surely do with stepping up a level to a more competitive level of football. Liverpool have been linked with the Argentine in the past, and he looks another good option to come in and give them something different in the wide areas.

2) Juan Cuadrado (Fiorentina)

Linked with Liverpool and a host of other top clubs this summer, Fiorentina winger Juan Cuadrado would be another excellent signing for the club if Sterling leaves. The Colombian international is a superb dribbler with plenty of pace and an eye for goal, though Manchester United and Barcelona will also be in for him again for sure.

1) Pedro (Barcelona)

Another top class wide-player with plenty of experience at the top level, Barcelona winger Pedro could be on his way out of the Nou Camp in the near future after falling out of favour under new manager Luis Enrique this season. The Spaniard would fit in well into Liverpool’s system and may be available for a reasonable price.
