Liverpool Boss Brendan Rodgers Wants England To Drop Raheem Sterling

Sterling has so far played nine games for Liverpool and England this season.

Brendan Rodgers wants England manager Roy Hodgson to consider dropping Raheem Sterling from the Three Lions Euro 2016 qualifiers against San Marino and Estonia next month, the Daily Express reports.

The 19 year old has featured in all of Liverpool’s and England’s fixtures so far this season and Reds boss Rodgers is worried that one of his star players could get burnt out if he plays the qualifiers next month.

”I would think Roy (Hodgson) and his staff would look at that with Raheem,” Rodgers said.

”He’ll want to ensure the games are won, but I’m sure resting players will be an objective.”

Rodgers was angered when Daniel Sturridge suffered an injury during the last international break, a problem the striker has still not recovered from.

While the former Swansea boss does concede the difficulty that Hodgson faces, he feels that better co-operation between club and country is needed.

Rodgers said: ”It’s one of the biggest jobs as a manager, maximising the available talent.”

Sterling’s excellent form for both club and country has led to speculation that Spanish giants Real Madrid could make a move for the young star next summer.
