Premier League Possession Table: Chelsea Surprsingly Ninth, With Arsenal Out On Top

A possession stat doesn’t always tell the story of a game.

20. Crystal Palace – 35.8%

Neil Warnock won’t be worrying to much about this stat as his side are unbeaten in four games.

19. Aston Villa – 36%

Villa may need to start improving this stat if they want to stay in the top half of the table.

18. Leicester City – 41.7%

The Foxes have had a great start to the season despite having some tough games against Chelsea and Everton.

17. QPR – 42.3%

Harry Redknapp may need to sign some passing talent in January if the Super Hoops are to control more games through possession.

16. Burnley – 42.6%

The Clarets have struggled to create chances in their first season back in the Premier League and it’s no wonder with this possession stat.

15. Hull City – 44.3 %

Steve Bruce wouldn’t have been expecting to keep hold of the ball  much in Hull’s first season back in the Premier League.

14. West Ham United – 46.1%

The Hammers game plan isn’t really based on possession so it isn’t a surprise to see them lower down the table.

13. Sunderland – 48-4%

Gu Poyet’s side have started the season slowly and may need to get on the ball more if they are to avoid a relegation fight.

12. West Bromwich Albion – 48.4%

Alan Irvine’s side sit comfortably in mid-table in both the Premier League table and the possession table.

11. Swansea City – 48.6%

The Swans topped this table last year but Gary Monk won’t mind being lower down this season as his side currently sit 5th in the Premier League table.

10. Stoke City – 50.5%

Mark Hughes side currently sit 17th in the table and will need to pick up points soon.

9. Chelsea – 53.7%

The Blues have been the stand out side in the Premier League so far this season and have made the most of their limited possession.

8. Liverpool – 54.2%

Brendan Rodgers will be disappointed with this stat as he sets up his side to go out and control possession.

7. Southampton – 54.4%

The Saints have been in wonderful form so far this season, creating plenty of chances and using the ball well.

6. Tottenham Hotspur – 55.7%

Spurs form so far this season has been patchy despite them having a lot of the ball.

5. Newcastle United – 56.2%

Although Alan Pardew’s side have had a lot of the ball this season they haven’t done much with it and currently sit bottom of the Premier League table.

4. Manchester City – 58.9%

The Champions will hope this stat increases as their form improves after a sluggish start to the season.

3. Everton – 59%

Despite a slow start to the season from the Toffees, Roberto Martinez will be happy that his side are getting lots of possession.

2. Manchester United – 60.3%

Louis van Gaal like his side to have plenty of the ball and control games so he will be pleased that his side are getting that right despite a slow start to the season.

1. Arsenal – 63.9%

Arsenal normally dominate this table because of the way Arsene Wenger sets up his side so it is no surprise to see the Gunners top of the possession table.
