However, their 4-0 win over the Queens Park Rangers on the 24th August was the last success Spurs have registered, excluding a League Cup victory over Nottingham Forest.

They have gone four Premier League games without win, including defeats against Liverpool and West Brom, while they also face a difficult task this weekend when they take on high-flying Southampton.

Meanwhile, they have been held to consecutive Europa League draws against Partizan Belgrade and Besiktas have done nothing to help the mood around White Hart Lane.

Here are eight players the North London club could target in the January transfer window:

8) Manolo Gabbiadini (Sampdoria)

Italian international, who at just 22 has great potential to develop into a top striker. Has scored eight league goals for his current side, who he joined in 2013.

7) Paco Alcacer (Valencia)

A 21-year-old striker who has been capped twice for Spain, scoring once. Has found the net 15 times in La Liga, striking 12 times for Valencia and on three occasions while on loan with Getafe.

6) Yevhen Konoplyanka (FC Dnipro)

The 25-year-old Ukrainian winger has been linked with both Liverpool and West Ham United in the past, but is still available after both moves failed to materialise – Spurs could be the team to take the risk.

5) Morgan Schneiderlin (Southampton)

The impressive Frenchman has gone from strength to strength this season, and has been the catalyst behind Southampton’s exceptional start to the season. It would take a huge offer to convince the Saints to sell.

4) Mateo Musacchio (Villareal)

Spurs missed out on the Argentine defender over the summer, but could return with an improved offer in January. The 24-year-old is highly experienced, having made his La Liga debut in 2010.

3) Wilfried Bony (Swansea City)

The hard-hitting Ivorian could be the ideal man to boost Tottenham’s struggling strikeforce. He found the net 25 times for the Swans last season, but has scored just once during the current campaign.

2) Jay Rodriguez (Southampton)

Yet to play this season due to injury, but that has not stopped several teams keeping tabs on his progress. The 25-year-old, one-time England international, scored 17 goals last season.

1) Jackson Martinez (FC Porto)

The free scoring Colombian has scored 51 goals in 64 league games for the Portuguese giants, and totals 69 in all competitions. The 28-year-old scored twice at the World Cup this summer.
