Three In, Three Out: Arsenal Boss Arsene Wenger To Revamp Attack In January Transfer Window

Expected changes Arsenal will make to their squad this January.

Arsenal made a number of changes to their squad during the summer, and look set to continue that way as they could offload three players and replace them with three others when the transfer window re-opens in January.

Midfield and attack look like being the key areas of focus for the Gunners, with Arsene Wenger unhappy with some of his current squad options in those departments as his side have got off to a somewhat up-and-down start to the 2014/15 season.

Based on recent transfer speculation, here are the three players heading out and the three expected to come in to the Emirates Stadium this January:

Out: Lukas Podolski

Supposedly a target for Juventus and Inter Milan, Lukas Podolski looks likely to be heading out of Arsenal this January after falling out of favour in Arsene Wenger’s plans this season. The German international has not quite had the desired impact at the Emirates Stadium since his move from Cologne two years ago, with some ineffective displays when given the chance this season. Having nearly left in the summer, it seems likely that he will finally be offloaded now.

Arsenal transfers

In: Andre Pierre Gignac

Linked today with a move to Arsenal, in-form Marseille striker Andre Pierre Gignac could be a top class signing for the Gunners to provide more depth upfront for the team. Although Danny Welbeck has performed well so far, Olivier Giroud’s injury leaves Wenger’s side short in that position if they pick up more knocks.

Out: Mesut Ozil

Having failed to hit the heights expected of him since his club-record move from Real Madrid last summer, Mesut Ozil is now being linked with a move away from Arsenal, with Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich supposedly considering an ambitious move for him this January. Pep Guardiola is said to be a fan of the German playmaker, and it will be interesting to see if Arsenal do consider letting him go this season.

In: Julian Draxler

Arsenal have sent scouts to watch Schalke youngster Julian Draxler in action after being heavily linked with him in the past, and it may now be that the Gunners will bid for him this January, with the 21-year-old a decent candidate to come in and replace Ozil if he does move, leaving a vacancy in that ‘number 10’ role for Arsene Wenger’s side.

Out: Joel Campbell

Reportedly angry at not being allowed to leave Arsenal for Benfica this summer, Joel Campbell could still be on his way out if he gets his wish this January, with the Costa Rica youngster not managing to establish himself in the first-team this season, despite looking like a good prospect with his performances on loan at Olympiacos last season and for his national side at this summer’s World Cup.

In: Sami Khedira

It is being widely reported that Arsenal have finally agreed a deal to sign Sami Khedira from Real Madrid this January, with the Gunners having tried and failed several times to bring him in during the summer. The German international now looks Emirates Stadium-bound this season, in what will no doubt be a big signing for the club.
