Leighton Baines missed his first penalty in 15 attempts at the weekend, but there are some Premier League stars who’ve fared far from worse 12 yards out.

Here are five with the worst percentage scoring ratios.

5) Jermain Defoe – 8 out of 14 (57.1%)

Defoe has the worst success rate of any Premier League player to have taken over ten spot-kicks, which begs the question: Why was he allowed to carry on taking them?! The Englishman bagged his fair share of goals nonetheless, and is currently scoring plenty for Toronto in the MLS.

4) Fabrizio Ravanelli – 4 out of 8 – (50% success rate)

The white-haired Italian had such an ego, he would likely have still demanded to take penalties even if he’d carrying missing every other attempt he had from the spot!

3) Juan Pablo Angel – 5 out 10 (50% success rate)

The Colombian forward once missed a penalty against Spurs in 2005, before scoring an own-goal just four minutes later!

2) El Hadji Diouf – 2 out of 5 (40% success rate)

Diouf missed penalties for Liverpool and Bolton Wanderers during his time in the Premier League. The much maligned Senegalese international now plies his trade in the Championship for Leeds United.

1) Stewart Downing – 2 out of 5 (40% success)

The English midfielder might be enjoying his best run of form since his Aston Villa heyday right now, but don;t expect the former Liverpool man to be given spot-kick duties anytime soon!
