The Argentine has attracted plenty of interest from top clubs in the past with his fine form in Serie A, and has come onto the Reds’ radar as Brendan Rodgers seeks to strengthen his attack this January.

A host of other big names have been linked with Liverpool in recent times, with the club still looking for a replacement for Luis Suarez after his £75m move to Barcelona in the summer, while new signing Mario Balotelli has not managed to impress since joining from AC Milan.

Icardi has managed to score an impressive six goals in just four games this season, looking like a highly prolific prospect at just 21 years of age, but his fine form looks set to earn him a new deal with the Italian giants.

The young forward has expressed his desire to remain with his current club, saying he has faith in the project in Milan and believes it is the right place for him to progress.
