Manchester City Target Pep Guardiola As Shock Pellegrini Replacement

City target former Barcelona boss as shock future manager.

Manchester City will not abandoned their hopes of luring former Barcelona and current Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola to the Etihad Stadium in the future, report the Daily Star, despite the Spaniard having made tentative recent comments suggesting that he could be interested in manager City’s bitter cross city rivals Manchester United.

There is no suggestion that Guardiola feels that his job at the Allianz Arena is anywhere near over, although a 6-0 victory over Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga on Saturday afternoon took them closer to a second successive German title under their new boss.

The former midfielder made his name as a manager with Barcelona, stepping up from his job in charge of the club’s B side to revolutionise their style of football and make them the finest club side on the planet, before stepping back on a brief sabbatical ahead of his move to Munich.

One thing that City do have in their favour is the fact that two former Barcelona directors, both of whom are very close to Guardiola, are in charge of overseeing football operations at City.

For now, however, the Premier League champions seem perfectly happy with the job that Manuel Pellegrini is doing, after he won the league in his first season, although failure to qualify from a tough Champions League group including Bayern and AS Roma could throw that into question.
