Can Sporting Kansas City Make It To The Champions League Quarter-Finals?

Sporting Kansas City have the opportunity to become the third MLS side to make it to the quarter finals of the 2014-15 CONCACAF Champions League tonight.

It won’t be easy though. They face a tough trip to Costa Rican side Deportivo Saprissa. The game will be played in front of a baying crowd and in near 100 percent humidity.

If they can make it through they would join Montreal Impact and DC United in the next round. No side from the MLS has won the competition in its current format, though with only two Mexican sides remaining (Pachuca and America), they might feel this year is their big opportunity.

Sporting Kansas City won 3-1 against Deportivo Saprissa back in mid-September, with two goals from Toni and a penalty from Dominic Dwyer proving the difference.

They go into the game three points ahead of their opponents. The groups are decided on results against each other, then goal difference against each other, then away goals against each other – meaning a 2-0 win would send the Costa Ricans through instead.
