Mikel Arteta OUT

Veteran skipper has always been something of a square peg in a round hole and has seen the creative element of his game quashed in favour of playing as a holding midfielder of sorts.

Morgan Schneiderlin IN

Southampton man would provide a far more steely option in the centre of the park and as well as genuinely offering protection for the club’s flair players the French international is also now proving effective in the final third.

Olivier Giroud OUT

Even before sidelined the French forward has been deemed rather one dimensional and has hardly been prolific since joining the club in the summer of 2012. Indeed the arrivals of Alexis Sanchez and Danny Welbeck, who have both started their Arsenal careers brightly, have only served to make the former Montpellier man look all the more average.

Edinson Cavani IN

If Arsene Wenger wants to really challenge for major honours then he needs a proven central striking option of real quality so who better than long term target Edinson Cavani. The PSG forward is the type of powerful marksman who would be an ideal Premier League addition, much like Chelsea new boy Diego Costa, and everyone knows Arsenal have the funds to acquire a player of the Uruguayan’s worth.

Per Mertesacker OUT

German has looked laboured and out of sorts this season and having just turned 30 he isn’t likely to see a return to the sort of form he displayed previously when part of a rock solid partnership with Laurent Koscielny. Clearly a fan favourite even the most ardent Arsenal supporter can see the World Cup winner’s shortcomings, now may be the time to consider bringing in a replacement.

Mats Hummels IN

Why not replace one German with another? The 25 year old is one of the best defenders in world football but his Borussia Dortmund side are moving in the wrong direction and the signs are that Hummels could be tempted into following the likes of Mario Gotze and Robert Lewandowski to a Westfalenstadion exit.
