5) Arturo Vidal (Juventus)
Linked for a long time with Manchester United, Juventus star Arturo Vidal could be a target worth considering for Liverpool. The all-action Chilean box-to-box player is very Steven Gerrard-like in his work-rate and goalscoring ability, though he would no doubt be expensive.
4) Yohan Cabaye (Paris Saint-Germain)
Not a regular at Paris Saint-Germain, but Yohan Cabaye was superb in the Premier League for Newcastle United and could be a realistic target for the Reds next season.
3) Christoph Kramer (Bayer Leverkusen)
A promising youngster who already has a World Cup winners’ medal for Germany, Christoph Kramer has recently been linked with Liverpool and looks a great midfield prospect.
2) Sami Khedira (Real Madrid)
Linked strongly with the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea, but Real Madrid’s Sami Khedira is another great all-round midfield player with bags of experience and quality who would be available for free next summer.
1) Alex Song (Barcelona)
A surprise choice perhaps, but Alex Song is surely set to be sold on the cheap by Barcelona next summer and has impressed on loan at West Ham United this term. A great player whilst at Arsenal, this hard-working defensive midfielder also has a great eye for a pass and was linked with Liverpool at points this summer.
