Anfield side want Bernabeu forward.
Liverpool are reportedly closing in on a deal to sign Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema according to the Metro.
Though Brendan Rodgers brought in Rickie Lambert and Mario Balotelli to help fill the void left by Luis Suarez’s departure to Barcelona it’s perhaps safe to say, at this admittedly early stage, that the two new signings are yet to deliver.
However does that mean that the Anfield side are really about to fork out a huge sum for yet another striker? Well apparently it does.
Real Madrid are ready to sell Benzema with boss Carlo Ancelotti recently leaving the French international out of his starting eleven, preferring on occasion to use Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo and James Rodriguez as his front three or simply selecting loaned in forward Javier Hernandez in his place.
The Spanish giants have told Liverpool that Benzema would cost them £38.8m and that is apparently a price the Merseyside outfit are willing to pay, hence this source claiming that the Premier League side are ‘closing in’ on a deal to snap up the former Lyon man.
Real Madrid appear to find scoring fairly easy without the help of Benzema, as an example the La Liga side have netted an astonishing 20 goals in their opening six domestic league fixtures of which the 26 year old has registered just the one.
Benzema has however only recently signed a new long term contract, hence his high asking price.
