Arsene Wenger’s side are not at their best so far this season, with summer signings Alexis Sanchez, Danny Welbeck and Calum Chambers not quite doing enough to lift the club to mount a serious title challenge, with a fight to finish in the top four looking likely again for the team this season.

With additions needed in a number of different positions, Arsenal seemingly have their eye on strikers, midfielders and defenders in a bid to enhance each key area of their squad this winter, with these five players emerging as Wenger’s top priority targets in the coming months:

1) Mattia Destro (AS Roma)

An impressively prolific front-man, AS Roma star Mattia Destro is attracting plenty of interest and seems likely to be the subject of a bid from Arsenal this January, though Chelsea are also interested.. With Olivier Giroud injured, the Gunners could do with an alternative to Danny Welbeck upfront, with the former Manchester United man only scoring twice in the Premier League so far this season.

2) Paulo Dybala (Palermo)

Another exciting forward player who could be in line for a move to the Emirates Stadium is Palermo youngster Paulo Dybala, who has drawn comparisons with Manchester City star and fellow Argentine Sergio Aguero. The 20-year-old looks an exciting prospect and could move for around £31m.

3) Stephan Liechtsteiner (Juventus)

In a bid to reinforce in defence, Arsenal could pounce for the signing of Juventus’ versatile full-back Stephan Lichtsteiner, who could allow youngster Calum Chambers to move centrally and aid the Gunners’ injury problems while Laurent Koscielny is out of action.

4) Sebastian Giovinco (Juventus)

Other reports suggest that Arsenal could even make it a double raid on Juventus this January as they also keep an eye on the situation of Italian forward Sebastian Giovinco. The skillful playmaker is considering his future in Turin and is free to talk to other clubs this winter as his current contract expires at the end of the season.

5) Lucas Biglia (Lazio)

Arsenal have also been linked with a move to raid Serie A side Lazio for their tough-tackling defensive midfielder Lucas Biglia, in a move that could solve another long-term problem position for the Gunners. The experienced Argentine has been linked with the club several times in the past and would surely make an improvement on their current options in that part of the pitch.
