According to the Mirror, Spain superstar Xavi believes the “incredible” Raheem Sterling is good enough to play for Barcelona. The Nou Camp midfielder, 34, also believes Everton schemer Ross Barkley would be able to succeed at the Catalan giants.
Here is how Barcelona could look with Xavi’s duo of new signings:
GK) Claudio Bravo
The summer signing has done well to fill the shoes of long-time number one Victor Valdes, and is the clear choice here.
RB) Dani Alves
The Brazilian full-back may be past his prime, but is still one of the most talented attacking defenders in the world.
LB) Jordi Alba
Speaking about the world’s best attacking full-backs, there are few better on the left hand side than Jordi Alba.
CB) Jeremy Mathieu
Another summer signing, the centre back has gone along way to sealing up Barca’s leaky back line, and has reduced Gerard Pique to the bench.
CB) Javier Mascherano
The Argentine work-horse may be a holding midfielder by trade, but he has proved equally adept at the heart of the back four.
CM) Xavi Hernandez
His long-time midfield partner Andres Iniesta would probably be the superior choice here, but it seems rather harsh to leave Xavi out of his own team.
CM) Ross Barkley
The Everton and England midfielder established himself as one of the best young midfielder’s in the world last season, establishing himself for both club and country.
RW) Raheem Sterling
The Liverpool teenager played a crucial role in the Reds run to second place in the Premier League last season, and has been their stand-out player again so far this term.
AM) Lionel Messi
One of the best players of all time, he goes hand in hand with any potential Barcelona XI, and surely always will – the clear and obvious choice for the heartbeat of the Catalans team.
LW) Neymar
The Brazilian forward has improved drastically since his arrival at the club, and has already surpassed last season’s goal tally with his exploits so far this season.
ST) Luis Suarez
The £75m man who signed from Liverpool in the summer might be yet to find the net for his new side, but he’s already shown his worth by creating several goals for his teammates.
