Manchester United Possible Post January XI With Hummels And Clyne Bolstering The Defence

It’s been a shaky start for van Gaal at Old Trafford.

Since Louis van Gaal took charge at Manchester United over the summer things have looked as inconsistent as ever, with some fine performances interwoven with some very poor ones.

After spending nearly £150m in the last window the Red Devils are expected to continue their spending in January and here is what their team could look like if they land all their dream targets.

GK – David de Gea

No problems in goal for United with de Gea beginning to prove why so much money was spent on him and the challenge now is to hold onto the Spaniard.

RB – Nathaniel Clyne

Both Rafael and Antonio Valencia have struggled in the role and with no other alternatives the club could do a lot worse than signing Southampton’s Clyne.

CB – Phil Jones

The England international has been doing well at centre-back and could really develop into a top-class talent in the role with a decent partner at the back.

CB – Mats Hummels

It’s clear that van Gaal needs to make a central defender a priority purchase and with Borussia Dortmund struggling in the Bundesliga there could be no better time to sign their captain.

LB – Marcos Rojo

Luke Shaw has failed to impress at left-back, whilst Rojo has had a similar problem in the middle and yet does well at full-back for Argentina and should perhaps be moved there for Man United.

CDM – Daley Blind

Quietly goes about his business in the holding role, but don’t doubt how important that is a team full of attacking stars.

CM – Angel di Maria

Has been in fine form since a British record £59.7m summer switch from Real Madrid and di Maria pulls all the creative strings in the middle for the Red Devils.

CM – Kevin Strootman

Van Gaal is a big fan of this fellow Dutchman and despite the fact Strootman has been out for some time with a cruciate ligament injury the box-to-box midfielder could really bring something to the team.

CAM – Wayne Rooney

With such a plethora of attacking talent available the captain may have to get used to this slightly deeper role and he certainly has the talent to make it a success.

ST – Robin van Persie

It has been a slow start to the campaign for the 31-year-old and he will need to improve soon or face being dropped, but there is no doubt van Persie is a top talent.

ST – Radamel Falcao

Yet to show his world-class talent, but the Colombia international has the potential to be a real success at Old Trafford.
