Jose Mourinho’s former assistant at Real Madrid Aitor Karanka, the current Middlesbrough manager, has lavished huge praise on the Portuguese maverick, reports the Daily Mail.

Karanka worked under Mourinho at Real Madrid, and won the La Liga title in 2011/12 – despite the fact that Lionel Messi scored 50 goals in one season for Barcelona.

“He (Mourinho) is the best coach in the world. He has shown it. And tactically he is a hundred steps ahead of the others,” Karanka, whose Middlesbrough side 3rd in the Championship, said.

“He came (to Madrid) after stopping Barcelona before, with Inter (Milan). Barca had won six titles and Jose stopped them. If not for him, they would have repeated another six titles.”

Karanka might just have a point.

Although Chelsea went trophyless last season, Mourinho’s side look they’re cantering to Premier League title glory this time around – and they haven’t lost a single match all campaign.

The Blues face West Brom at Stamford Bridge after the international break, and then travel to Germany to play Schalke in the Champions League.
