The 26-year-old has fast become a poster boy for his manager Brendan Rodgers’ terrible transfer record, and doesn’t look like he is going to turn that reputation around.

Here are six possible replacements…

Neto, Fiorentina

The Brazilian has been linked to the Reds as his contract gets closer to running our at the end of the season. He would be a cheap if risky option and would most likely be competition rather than a replacement for Mignolet.

Petr Cech, Chelsea

The Czech is still a world class ‘keeper, but has been displaced by Thibaut Courtois at Chelsea. He would be available fairly cheaply and could make an immediate impact on the team. The Reds are interested according to the Daily Star.

Asmir Begovic, Stoke City

Begovic has been Stoke’s best player for years now, and would surely be keen on a move to a team that is chasing European qualification. He would give an air of competence to the back line. He would apparently cost £10 million.

Guillermo Ochoa, Malaga

The 2014 World Cup hero has been struggling to get in to the Malaga side which he only joined in the summer. He wouldn’t cost much, and as was seen from his performances for Mexico in Brazil he is a top class stopper.

Mattia Perin, Genoa

Labelled the “new Gianluigi Buffon,” Perin would definitely be a risk at the £16 million that Genoa are supposedly asking for him. However, he is already part of the Italy national squad at the young age of 21, and could be a top class keeper for over a decade if signed.

Sergio Romero, Sampdoria

The former Manchester United target is one of the questionable goalies linked to Anfield. He may have had a good World Cup, but he has a history of being an unreliable stopper before that. It would be a risk to sign him on the hope that he continues his World Cup form.
